Smyrna First has made a commitment to Elizabeth Inn to recruit individuals or groups willing to take on the task of planning, preparing, and serving an evening meal for roughly 75 people (with extra for seconds) each month. To sign up, or for more info, contact Dan Henninger at firstname.lastname@example.org or (404) 218-7346.
There is an immediate need for a group to take care of the evening meal at Elizabeth Inn on February 8th, 2018. It involves planning, preparing, and serving 75 men, women, and children at Elizabeth Inn, the MUST Ministries homeless shelter. Please contact Dan Henninger at email@example.com or (404) 218-7346 for more information and to volunteer your group.
Sunday Nurseries (6wks-6yrs)
Join the fun and sign up to serve in one of our wonderful nursery rooms on Sunday mornings. We offer opportunities to serve for the early services from 8:45-10:00 or 11:00-12:00. For more information please contact Julia Shod.
We share God’s love wherever and whenever possible from handing out free bottles of water at the Jonquil Festival to chocolate bunnies at Easter in the Park. We look for opportunities to say hello, offer an invitation card to come to church and just be available for questions about SFUMC. We seek ways to share information and show hospitality to our guests and help new members connect with the SFUMC family. For more information or to serve with us, contact Donna Jordan. Check out the Outreach Team Newsletter.
Children’s Ministries has many ways to serve, from seasonal events such as Easter in the Park, Vacation Bible School, Trunk or Treat and Hands on Christmas/Gift Mart to weekly, bi-weekly and monthly offerings such as teaching or helping with Sunday School, Children’s Church Helpers and Children’s Council members to prepping, cutting, copying and pasting and SO much more! ALL are welcome to join in the fun of serving Christ through serving His children. Please contact Marla Arnold to get plugged in!
Trinity House - Big Bethel
The fourth Tuesday of each month Smyrna FUMC volunteers provide food and fellowship for the men who are recovering from addiction at Trinity House. If you or your group are interested in preparing a meal and or fellowshipping with the men, please contact Alan Nicely at 770-436-4108 ext. 259 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels needs a driver (Male or Female) for the Fifth Friday on Route One. The Fifth Friday is only 3 or 4 times a year. They also need substitute drivers to deliver one or two times a year when the regular drivers cannot. We do not want the shut-ins of our community to lose a meal! Please prayerfully consider being a part of this vital ministry. If you can help – even one time – contact Evelynn Herring at (770) 435-3048.
We need your smiling face! Serving as a Greeter only takes 30 minutes, once a month, on a Sunday morning (training provided). Greeters serve at various locations in the church or at one of the entrances. Make everyone feel welcome and at home by assisting with opening doors, finding classrooms (and restrooms), escort visitors to nurseries, and providing guest information (information tables available in the Welcome Center and Narthex). For further details and to sign up to serve as a Greeter, contact Linda Porter at email@example.com or 770-378-9646.
Wednesday Night Dinners
Our goal is to serve a healthy meal to our church family and provide an opportunity for fellowship. There are many ways to serve on the WNL team! We have volunteers who help prepare the food while others serve dinner to guests, resupply the salad bar, desserts, coffee service, etc. Of course, there is always room for help at clean up time! By our serving, we create bonds of friendship among our volunteers! We have fun together, and would be happy for you to join us! We serve the church once per week during the Cobb County School calendar. For additional information, please contact Beth Nowlin.
The prayer team is a group of individuals that provide support, through prayer, for the various ministries at SFUMC as well as individuals who leave prayer requests after services. Prayer requests are distributed to prayer team members, and the members are encouraged to contact those who leave requests in order to acknowledge that the request is being prayed over. The team also conducts prayer vigils and services to support various initiatives and efforts throughout the church. Please contact Wes Bunkley for more information.
Trinity Soup Kitchen
Trinity Table is the only soup kitchen in downtown Atlanta that is open on Sundays. By serving, you help provide what may be the only meal our homeless guests receive that day! The Smyrna First volunteers help provide, cook and serve a hot, sit-down meal to upward of 300 guests. In addition, we also provide them a to-go lunch. You can help by donating money, helping to cook, making sack lunches, donating paper goods, and/or serving in person at Trinity UMC. For more information, please contact Beth Nowlin.
In addition to the opportunities above, there are many ways to Serve the Church. Please indicate your willingness to Serve in the areas below.
