Smyrna First UMC Ghana Mission

Smyrna First has established an ongoing relationship with Bethel Church in Tamale, Northern Region, Ghana, West Africa to partner and support needs of the remote village of Nyobido. This will be the second year a mission team from our church has visited this area.

During a 3 to 5 year timeframe, the Ghana Mission team’s focus is to provide health evaluations and first aid education, build a structure that will be used for the church and school in the remote village of Nyobido and spread the love and word of Jesus Christ to the people in the village.

This year the team accomplished:

• a baseline of current health and health issues for 350 villagers as well as
much needed parasite medication and first aid.
• began the construction of the combination church/school building
• delivered Bible school for over 100 children

Additional work was done in the Adullam Orphanage in Obuasi and Bible School activities in the Village of Trede. At the Adullam Orphanage, there were 175 children who received health evaluations and one of the team members stayed and taught in the deaf school for a week. At Trede the team was able to hold Bible School for 40 children at the newly formed Sabin Akrofrom Bible Club.
God did some truly amazing things during this trip and plans are already underway for next year’s trip.
Our activities in Ghana are planned and organized through the Mission Society and missionaries Michael and Claire Mozley. More detailed information is available in the church office if you would like a day by day itinerary. (June 18-July 1, 2008)
