Safe Sanctuary Church

Smyrna First United Methodist Church is a spiritual community which takes seriously its responsibility to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children, youth and vulnerable adults who participate in our ministries. The education of our children and youth is one of the primary focuses of God’s Church.

Two Bible verses that we find particularly
relevant to these ministries are:

(Jesus said) “And whoever received one such child in My name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” Matthew 18:5-6 (New American Standard Bible)

In keeping with our covenant relationship with God, we honor our Lord and all who seek Him by doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly with Him. Micah 6:8 (New International Version © 1984)

In an effort to provide a safe community, this church requires all church employees and volunteers to commit themselves to the Safe Sanctuary Policies & Procedures for the protection of children, youth and vulnerable adults adopted by the Church Council.
